The Apply Styles feature allows users to style a module or section, and then apply the chosen style to existing, or subsequently created content of the same type.

Applying style to a Module

Setting a Module style

To use the 'Apply Styles' feature, you will first need to use the Module Settings to select new style settings for the module. Though the style options vary from module to module, the process of applying a style is the same.  We are using a Rich Text module to demonstrate.

  • To access the Module settings, click Settings for your Rich Text module (1)
  • Under the Text heading (2), you will find the options for updating the paragraph-level text in your Rich Text module. These include Font Family, Font Size, Font Color, Alignment, and Padding.

  • In addition to paragraph-level text, the Advanced Customization section (3) allows you to independently select styles for Headings, Quotes, Equations, Links, Bullet Lists, and Number Lists within your Rich Text module.

  • When you are satisfied with your new style settings, select the Apply Styles icon (4) to the right of the Customize Style heading.

Applying style to all new Modules

  • When you select the Apply Styles icon, you will be given two options: Apply to All New Modules, or Apply to Existing Modules.  Select "Apply to All New Modules" (1).

  • You will now be able to review the list of all your chosen style settings in the active module.  If you would like to exclude a particular setting at the last minute, simply uncheck the blue checkbox next to the style element (2).  Doing so will return that particular style element to the system default.
  • When you are satisfied with your style settings, select “APPLY STYLE” (3).

  • With your new default style set, all subsequent Rich-Text modules that you add to the ePortfolio will display your chosen style settings (4).

Apply style to existing text Modules

The Apply to Existing Text Modules option will allow you to apply your chosen style settings to existing modules of the same module type in your ePortfolio.

  • After selecting Apply to Existing Text Modules, you can review your chosen style settings on the left side of the page (1)
  • The right side of the page displays the organizational hierarchy of pages, subpages, sections, and modules in your ePortfolio (2).
  • By default, all existing Rich Text modules are selected but can be individually excluded from the style settings by unchecking the respective blue checkbox (3).
  • Other module types, which cannot receive the Rich Text style settings, are marked by an unticked checkbox (4).  The chosen style setting will only be applied to modules with a blue checkmark.

Reverting to default styles

To return a particular style element to the original default, simply hover over the name of the style element.  This will cause the original default setting to appear, along with a button that reads “Default.”

  • Clicking “Default” (1) will return the setting to the original default setting.

Applying style to a Section

Sections can be customized with background images, background colors, and opacity levels for both. Your section style can then be applied to new or existing sections, including instruction sections.

  • To apply a section style, expand the context menu and then click the Settings (1) button.

  • In the settings, choose your desired styles, then click “APPLY STYLES” (2).
  • Apply to All New Sections (3), follows the same process outlined for “Apply to All New Modules,” while  Apply to Existing Sections (4), works slightly differently than it does for modules.

Applying a style to existing Sections

  • After clicking Apply to Existing Sections, you will arrive at the review page.
  • As with modules, the left-hand column (1) lists your chosen style settings, while the right-hand column (2) allows you to select the sections to which you would like to apply the style.

  • By default, All Sections (3) will be checked; however, this does not include any Instruction Sections that your ePortfolio may contain.
  • To apply the style to Instruction Sections as well, click the checkbox for All Instruction Sections (4).  To apply to a more specific selection of sections, deselect both and then click the checkboxes for the desired sections.

For a list of style options that can be used with the Apply Styles feature, please see the article: "Module style properties".
