A Quick-Start Guide for the New Digication ePortfolios

Getting Started

What are ePortfolios?

An ePortfolio is an online, educational tool that promotes learning through collaboration and feedback among instructors and students in an engaging social environment. Digication's ePortfolio system makes it easy for everyone to showcase their achievements and progress made across educational, professional, and personal goals in a safe and customizable digital environment.

 

Logging into your Digication Account

To log in and begin creating ePortfolios in the new Digication, go to your web browser's address bar and enter your school's unique Digication login URL (1) the same URL from your registration email, then enter your Username (2) and Password (3), and finally click Log In. If your login credentials do not work for you, you can click the link Forgot your password? Click here. (5) and submit your school email email address to trigger a password reset for your account.

 

Note: Only the Digication Administrators for your institution have the authority to authorize new accounts. If you currently do not have an account with Digication but feel you should, send us an email to support@digication.com with your full name, school email address, and information about the course you feel you feel you should be enrolled in. 


 

Create Your ePortfolio

After a successful log in, you are brought to your User Dashboard. To create a New Digication ePortfolio from this screen, click the Create (1) button next to the My ePortfolios heading.

 

The next screen will provide you with a video introduction for the New Digication and give you an option to learn more about the available features.

 

At the end of the presentation, you are given an option to create your ePortfolio with the existing tools in Classic Digication or utilize the new features offered in the New Digication. Select Use New.

 

After you confirm your choice to create a New Digication ePortfolio, type in the title (1) of your ePortfolio. A URL will be created for you or you may choose to create a custom URL for your ePortfolio (2). Choose a template or create From Scratch and then, select Create (3) to finalize the title and URL and start making edits.

 

Adding Pages, Nested Pages, and Slides.

Adding organizational depth to your ePortfolio through Pages and Slides allows you to organize your content for easier digestion by your peers. In the example below, this user created a My Courses page, and is using slides to divide the content by course.

 

If you would like to add or edit pages, or apply new settings, select the ePortfolio Navigation Menu and select the edit button (1).

 

On the next screen, you can select Add New Page (1) to add a new page to your ePortfolio. Selecting the Settings button (2) on a page will give you options to change a pages name, URL, visibility, or heading status. You can click and drag (3) on a page to place it in the order your prefer. 

 

By moving a page under an existing page and dragging it's placement to the right, you can apply it as a nested page. On your ePortfolio Navigation Menu, you will now see that page produces a drop-down menu for navigation, showing that the newly nested pages are separate objects from the original page.

 

Adding Content

ePortfolios allow you to highlight content on your slides through the Media module and the Rich Text Module. To add additional content to your slide, make sure you have the appropriate slide selected (by observing the Portfolio option buttons in the upper right), and select the Add Content button (1) on the lower right corner of your screen.

 

 

On the next screen, you will see options to add Search for a Content Type or paste in a file URL (1), Select a Content Type (2),  Choose a recently used content type (3) , or Choose from the All Content list (4). There are many options for adding slides, text, media and files from your computer or from popular web services such as Google and YouTube.

 

Selecting the Rich Text Module allows you to enter in type and use basic formatting like Bolding, Italicizing, and Underlining, as well as making your text a numbered or bulleted list.

 

Selecting the Style Wheel (1) will reveal the Style menu on the left side of the page to allow you to apply a theme or adjust style options individually.

 

Explore the content types. You can add images, video, and audio files. You can also add files in a wide variety of formats including Docs, PDFs and PowerPoint presentations. You can upload a file, capture media directly in your ePortfolio, embed media from other web services, and drag and drop files directly onto your ePortfolio pages.

Editing and Publishing Your ePortfolio

When you access your ePortfolio, your initial view will be in Edit mode. You can tell you are in Edit mode by the position of the Status Slider at the top of your page (1) and the presence of the Slide Options buttons (2), along with the Add Content tool (3)

 

To apply any changes made to your slides for your viewers, go to a page with updated content and access the Publish menu (1), then select the Publish option (2) from the menu to publish any changes made on that page.
