Discussion categories are helpful in courses with many discussions as they allow viewers of the course to filter the list of discussions to find the one most relevant to their purposes. When a discussion topic is created, it can be added to one or more categories by clicking the Choose categories button (1)
A list of categories is available including, Announcement, Assignment, Discussion, Handout, Resource, and Syllabus (2). If you need to create your own category, such as Readings, simply type in the field provided and click the Add button (3). Then, select the category from the list. Once a discussion is added to a category, the category will display in the left-side menu inside the discussion tab (4).
