To begin using Digication's Program/Committee Assessment System we will need your school to provide us with answers to the following questions for each assessment cycle you'd like to create:
- Name of "Program" (such as Education, Engineering or General Education)
- Name of "Sample" (such as Writing 101, Spring Semester 2014 or FYE Seminar 2012-14)
- Names/email addresses of reviewers/admins/viewers
- Courses/assignments/steps where the submissions to be assessed have been submitted in Digication at your school (More specific is best, but we'll work with you if we have questions.)
- Size of the desired sample (e.g. all available submissions, 20% of pool, 200 submissions)
- Rubric or rubrics to be used in the assessment
- Assignment of submissions guidelines (e.g. how many reviewers per piece of evidence, any special instructions or restrictions, whether you'll want to do a tie-breaker round to reassess submissions that have reviewers who disagreed by X score.)
Step-by-Step Walkthrough for Each Item
Name of "Program"
A Program Assessment Setup in Digication should be first named according to the program or major that the assessment is supposed to measure. Some examples being Education, Engineering or General Education.
Name of "Sample" (such as Writing 101, Spring Semester 2014 or FYE Seminar 2012-14)
Within a program there are "Samples" which are submissions of student work collected from Digication courses and assessment groups and assigned to one or more reviewers for assessment. Samples are typically ePortfolio submissions but may also be individual documents such as Word files (.doc) or PDFs. It's a best practice to put the year and term in the name of the sample for ease of use.
Names/email addresses of reviewers/admins/viewers
Courses/assignments/steps where the submissions to be assessed have been submitted
Building the sample's catalogue of submissions for scoring requires that we know which assignment(s) from what course(s) and/or assessment groups need to be included. The more specific the information we receive, the quicker the sample can get set up but of course if there are any questions and problems found along the way our support team will contact you for clarification.
Size of the desired sample
Total number of submissions requested in the sample. This can be narrowed down by course and/or assessment group as well as by percentage of the available sample.
Rubric or rubrics to be used in the assessment
Rubrics are critical to the process as they're the mechanism by which submissions are scored. Be sure to include a copy of the rubric or rubrics as a document so that it can be recreated for you within the assessment system.
Assignment of submissions guidelines
Define how many reviewers should view and score each piece of evidence, and also any special instructions or restrictions, such as whether you'll want to do a tie-breaker round to reassess submissions that have reviewers who disagreed by X score.
