- With the Gradebook feature faculty members are able to review student performance in a centralized place.
- Gradebook has a grid interface that offers an overview of all assignments & activities for a Course and displays the status of assignments for each student.
- The grid interface will provide a convenient space for faculty members to review the status of all assignments at once. Instead of opening each assignment individually, faculty members will be able to quickly assess the status of each assignment. They can easily identify which students have not submitted their work, which assignments are still ungraded, and which areas need immediate attention.
- Faculty members can directly access and edit assignment settings from the Gradebook, enter new grades, update previous grades, and send targeted messages to students based on their submission status, for courses connected with the LMS, grades are sent automatically to the LMS, view and access outcome information, add new outcome information.
Open Gradebook
You can open the Gradebook in two ways:
1. Through the Courses menu
Navigate to the course page (1), click on the course menu hamburger icon (2), and select the "Gradebook" option (3).
2. From each Assignment's details page
Select a preferred assignment (4) and click the "VIEW IN GRADEBOOK" (5).
View Gradebook
- Each row represents a student enrolled in the course (1).
- Each column represents an assignment associated with the course (2).
- Each cell under an assignment column shows the grade value (3) if it has already been evaluated.
- Grades below the passing grade are highlighted with a red box (4), making it easier for faculty to identify and engage with struggling learners.
- A "SUBMITTED" label (5) indicates that the student has submitted the assignment.
- A "DUE: IN X DAYS" label (6) indicates that the assignment is due within the specified timeframe.
- A "DUE: X DAYS AGO" label (7) indicates that the assignment was due X hours ago and is now overdue.
- Each cell provides information about outcome assessments (8), including the score given (9), the reviewer (faculty, self, or peer) (10), and the average score if multiple assessments have been made (11).
- An info icon (12) for faculty to access additional details about outcomes and rubrics for each outcome assessment
- Additional outcomes are displayed with a purple tag (13).
- Outcomes with a score below the passing score are highlighted with a red border (14).
- Display outcomes that have been set for evaluation in the assignment but have not yet been evaluated (15).
Search Assignment(s)
- Enter the name or partial name of the student (1) you are searching for in the search bar.
- As you type, the list of students along with their assignments (2) will filter to show only those whose names match the entered criteria.
Sort students by name
- Click on the three-dot icon (1).
- Select a preferred sorting criteria.
Sort by:
First Name: Choose this option to sort students by their first names (2).
Last Name: Choose this option to sort students by their last names (3).
Sort Order:
Ascending, A-Z: Choose this option to sort the list in ascending alphabetical order (4).
Descending, Z-A: Choose this option to sort the list in descending alphabetical order (5).
Filter by Assignment, Assessment, Outcome Type, and Outcomes
- Click the dropdown (1) next to "Filter by: ASSIGNMENT".
- Select or deselect the checkboxes (2) next to the assignment names to choose which assignments you want to list.
- Click the dropdown (3) next to "Filter by: ASSESSMENT" and select or deselect the checkboxes (4) to filter assessments based on who reviewed them (faculty, self, or peer). This allows you to choose which assessments, depending on the reviewer, you want to display.
- Click the dropdown (5) next to "Filter by: OUTCOME TYPE" and select or deselect the checkboxes to filter based on the outcome type.
- Selecting "Required outcomes" (6) will display the outcomes that were previously configured and set for the assignment.
- Enabling "Show outcomes without assessment" (7) will display outcomes that have been pre-set on the assignment but have not yet been used to evaluate the submissions.
- Selecting "Additional outcomes" (8) will display outcomes that are newly created by faculty, peers, or students during evaluations, which were not pre-set in the assignment by the faculty.
- Click on “Outcomes” (1) selection filter to choose which outcomes (2) you want to display in the Gradebook.
- Click the Deselect All (3) option to clear all previously selected outcomes.
Display options
- Click on "DISPLAY" (1) to show the display settings.
- Enable the toggle next to "Grade" (2) to show the grade value for assignments. Disable it to hide the grade value.
- Click the toggle next to “Assessment” (3) to show or hide outcome assessments.
- Click the toggle next to "Non-gradable assignment" (4) to show or hide non-gradable assignments.
Enable scrollable cells
- Toggle the Scrollable Cells (1) switch to enable (2) or disable horizontal scrolling (3) within the Gradebook cells.
Add or update grades
Add new grade
- To grade an assignment, click on the blank grade value area (1) of an ungraded assignment (2).
- Enter the grade value (3) in the input field and click save (4).
Update grade
- To update a grade, click on the grade value area (1) of a graded assignment (2).
- Enter the new grade value (3) in the input field and click save (4).
Send grade to LMS
- Click on the grade value area (1) to view the LMS integration details for courses integrated with any LMS.
- Enable the "Send grade to [LMS Name]" toggler (2) to initiate the grade-sending process to any LMS.
- When a grade is being sent to an LMS, it will indicate the current status as “Grade being sent to <LMS Name>” (3).
- Grades that fail to send are indicated with a red circle (4) next to the grade value. If you want to resend the grade, click on 'Retry' (5) to attempt resending it.
- Once the grade is successfully sent to the LMS, it will not display a status. However, a record will be added to the history, noting "grade successfully sent to [LMS Name]" (6).
View grade history
The Grade History feature allows you to view a record of all changes made to a student's grade.
- Click on the grade value area (1) of an assignment.
- Click on "History" (2).
- This will open a popup with records that include the information on who made the change (3), a brief description of the change (4), and the timestamp of when the change was made (5).
View outcome assessment details
- Click on the outcome assessment tag (1) to view more details to see details such as the scores given (2), the reviewer (faculty, self, or peer) (3), and the average score if multiple assessments have been made (4).
NOTE: In scenarios where an average calculation cannot be performed due to multiple rubrics being used for evaluations by different reviewers, a red icon will be displayed with a message to notify users.
- Click the info icon (1) on an assessment tag to view detailed information about the associated outcome (2) and rubric (3). If a rubric is associated with the outcome, you can click on the rubric link (4) to view more details (5) about it.
Add assessment scores
- Click on an unscored outcome (1). Once clicked, a "Score here" option (2) will appear. You can click on this option to open a new window to add scores directly from the Gradebook for submissions that haven’t been assessed yet.
- In the outcome assessment window (1), click the expand/collapse icon (2) to expand or collapse the window. Click the minimize/maximize icon (3) to resize the window. Click the cancel icon (4) to close the window.
- Click the "plus" icon (5) to select existing outcomes or create a new outcome for evaluations.
- If the outcome is associated with a rubric, you can add scores (6) or comments (7).
- Use the GRADE (8) and OUTCOMES (9) tabs to switch between the outcome assessment window and assignment grade options to add an outcome assessment or add a new grade.
Edit Assignment details.
- Select a preferred assignment and click on the three-dot icon (1).
- Select the “Edit” option (2) to navigate to the assignment edit page.
- Update any preferred assignment settings on the assignment edit page (3).

Send messages
- Select a preferred assignment and click on the three-dot icon (1).
- Select the “Send messages” option (2) to navigate to the message-sending window.
- Check the box next to "Those who have submitted (3)" to send the message to students who have submitted their assignments (3), check the box next to "Those who have not submitted (3)" (4) to send the message to students who have not submitted their assignments, or check both boxes to send the message to all students.
- Type your message in the "Message" area (5).
- Enable the "Allow late submission until" toggle (6) to allow late submissions and specify the deadline by selecting the date and time.
- Enable the "Send me a copy" toggle (7) to receive a copy of the message sent to the students.
- Click "SEND" (8) to deliver your message based on the selected settings.
NOTE: Messages will be delivered based on each recipient's notification settings.
View student progress in Gradebook Individual View
- To view a student's progress, click on the student's name (1) in the Gradebook. This will open the Gradebook Individual View for that student.
- In the Gradebook individual view (2), use the carousel (3) at the footer to navigate between each student's Gradebook Individual Views.
- Click the current student's name (4) to open the student list, then select a student to view their individual progress.
- Use the "Sort By" dropdown (5) to filter students by first name or last name, or use the search option (6) and select a student to open their Gradebook Individual View.
- This view provides an overview of each enrolled student's courses (7), their assignments (8), scores given (9), outcomes and rubrics used for assessments (10), and any planned outcomes that haven't been assessed yet (11).
- If there are multiple submissions, the "My Latest Submission" section will display a preview of the most recent one (12), with an option to view others by clicking on "more" (13). If there is only one submission, it will preview as "My Submission" (14). Click on the preview (15) to open the submission, where you can add grades, perform outcome assessments, or provide feedback using the Conversations feature.
Close Gradebook
- To exit the Gradebook and return to the course home page, click "CLOSE GRADE BOOK" (1).
