Digication Development Update - 08/14/2024

Dear Digication Community,

In keeping with our commitment to providing a two-week notice in advance of any changes to our user interface, we wanted to let you know about some upcoming improvements that will occur on or after August 28, 2024, and a list of bug fixes that had been implemented since our last report on October 31, 2023.

Upcoming changes

  • Ability to designate a “Page Name” in prompt-based Assignments.
  • New header row and enhanced accessibility for Table modules.
  • Ability for Admins to add Sync ID for new and existing Kora courses.
  • Improved experience when adding sections to a page.
  • Resizable sections to maintain minimum height.
  • Newly styled Context Menu for “Sections” in Work Pages.
  • New “Unlock” option for Work page Headers.
  • Renaming "Previous Uploads" to "My Files" in Library.

Ability to designate a “Page Name” in prompt-based Assignments

In this upcoming release, when faculty select the option "Use Prompt" during assignment creation, there will be a new additional field for the "Page Name." If you don't specify a value for the "Page Name" field, it will default to the assignment name.

Currently, when an assignment uses prompts, the assignment name becomes the ePortfolio page name by default. This approach can result in students having inappropriate page names in their ePortfolio submissions. With this feature improvement, students' ePortfolio pages will have more appropriate names.

New header row and enhanced accessibility for Table modules

We will add an option to toggle the first row as a header row, with the setting label changing from "Show Header" to "Toggle Header Row." You will be able to apply different styles to the heading row using the new "Heading Style" option.
The new table module will also increase accessibility by

  • Allowing screen readers to easily read the table.
  • Making tables are easy to navigate using the keyboard.
  • Making it easy to see which cell of the table you're focused on.
  • Automatically adjusting table sizes to fit different screen sizes.

Ability for Admins to add Sync ID for new and existing Kora courses

A course sync ID is required to connect a Digication course with the LMS, sync grades, and troubleshoot integration issues. With the new update, Digication admins will be able to manually add a sync ID to a new or existing Kora course through the user interface. If faculty members want to add a sync ID to their courses, they can request it from admins.

New “Add Section” button for Work Pages

In the upcoming release, we're making it easier for students to organize their Work pages by introducing a new "Add Section" button. Previously, adding a new section required using the "Add Content" option and the resulting section always appears at the bottom of the page. With the new update, the "Add Section" button will allow sections to be added between any sections on a page.

Resizable sections to maintain minimum height

The section's height is always automatically resized based on the size of the modules within. We have created a new “minimum height” feature. This means that when the section is resized, it will maintain its new height even if the modules within do not take up the full height of the section. Once the section minimum height is changed the "Auto Resize" button can be used to remove any extra space in the section by adjusting the section's height to match the total height of all contained modules.

Newly styled Context Menu for “Sections” in Work Pages

announcement-august-2024-2.png

In the upcoming release, we will be updating the styles of the section context menu on your Work pages. The menu will open as a dialog with some speed dial buttons when you hover over it. These buttons allow you to move sections up or down, change the background for sections, access section settings, or delete sections.

Background Indicator in Context Menu for Sections.

The context menu for sections will include an icon that reflects the section's background. If you add a color, the icon will show that color; if you choose a background image, the icon will display the image. This makes it easy to quickly identify and manage section backgrounds.

Change resize module/section user interface

In the upcoming release, we will improve the user interface for resizing modules and sections. It will make it easier to identify when a module or section is ready to be resized.

New “Unlock” option for Work page Headers

In the next update, you will be able to unlock the header section of your Work more easily. An "Unlock" button with a message will appear, allowing you to easily unlock and edit the header section. The same feature will apply to any “Instructional Sections”.

Renaming "Previous Uploads" to "My Files" in Library

In the upcoming release, the "Previous Uploads" option in the library will be renamed to "My Files."
