Templates and prompts are two ways to give students structure for their work. This guide shows you how to use both when creating an assignment in Digication.
Create a new assignment
From your course dashboard, click Create New Assignment.
Add a title and description for your assignment.
Choose a structure: template or prompt
Below the title, choose the structure for your assignment. A template provides a pre-built structure with pages and sections already in place. A prompt is a short written instruction that students can respond to directly in a portfolio.
Templates
You can browse the available templates. You will see templates you have created, templates shared within your system, and any general-purpose templates available to everyone. You can select one that fits the assignment or choose to create a new template.
A template gives students a complete pre-built structure: pages, sections, and modules already in place when they open the assignment. Use a template when you want to provide the layout and guide the work from the start.
Prompts
A prompt is a short written instruction. You can add up to ten. When students open the assignment, each prompt gets its own space where they can write, add images, or upload files. Use prompts when you want to give direction with a simple structure.
Set a due date
Set a due date and any other submission settings that apply to your course.
Grading and LMS sync
When students submit, you can review and grade their work right in Digication. If your course is connected to an LMS like Canvas or Blackboard, those grades will sync automatically.
Outcomes and rubrics (optional)
If you want to track learning outcomes at the course, program, or organization level, scroll to the Assessment section and click the plus sign to attach outcomes and rubrics. This is optional.
Publish the assignment
Once your assignment is ready, click Create.
Your assignment will appear in your course assignments list.
Students see it in their My Assignments & Activities area. They can start working right away by clicking Add Work, choosing to either create a new portfolio or add this assignment to one they have already started.
